For the past couple of years, our citizen leaders and experts have been working as part of Trenton & Camden's Green Teams.  It's with great excitement that we join Sustainable Jersey in celebrating the certifications of both cities and commend the members who are taking the initiative to builder and stronger and greener communities.

On January 29th, the Camden Green Team was awarded by Sustainable Jersey with the "Collaboration Award" for its achievement in bringing partners from the non-profit, business, and faith-based sectors, along with volunteer City residents and government agencies into its efforts.  The sustainability of a community takes partnership from all aspects of the City in order for it to be successful.  Accompanying this award was recognition of Camden's bronze certification for various actions including water conservation, energy audits, rain gardens, holding a Green Fair and various community educational programs - totaling 285 points!

The Trenton Green Team was also awarded with a bronze certification (150 points) for its success in moving the City closer to becoming more environmentally & economically sustainable.  Trenton's 2011-12 initiatives include a Climate Action Plan, a “Capital City Farmer’s Market,” a community asset map that highlights Trenton’s positive attributes, community & school gardens, childhood obesity and lead prevention programs, and several environmentally-sound development regulations for the City. You can follow the Trenton Green Team on Facebook through their journey towards silver certification.

Both Green Team’s long-term commitment to make their cities more sustainable go beyond just “going green,” and qualify the City for future government and corporate financial support.

Meetings for both Camden & Trenton Green Teams are open to the public and volunteers are always needed to help complete priority actions.  In Camden, contact Felix and in Trenton, contact for more info.
