Do you have an issue that you’d like to see addressed in your community?

Whether it is public safety, education, affordable housing, land preservation, youth services, or a host of other issues at the local, county or state levels, you don’t have to rely solely on public officials. Serving on an appointed government board puts you in a position of power to have influence on these quality of life issues that affect your daily life.

In our 10 minute video class, we share the benefits of these powerful positions, as well as where you can serve and how to successfully get appointed.

Linda MurrayTake Linda Murray for example, while attending Rutgers-Camden University, Linda was introduced to The Citizens Campaign at the school’s Civic Engagement Forum. Within a few days, she had taken 4 of our online classes. Using the tools in our Appointed Office class, Linda was appointed to her Human Relations Commission, & more recently she was appointed to her Zoning Board. Linda now serves as Chair of the HRC, coordinating an annual Willingboro Call to Service Summit so that other residents can learn about the appointments process & volunteer to serve.

Robert ByrneAs City Clerk of Jersey City, Robert Byrne has insider knowledge of how the appointments process works!  Over the past few years, Robert has facilitated classes with The Citizens Campaign for Jersey City residents to learn about how to become an appointed official, and a panelist for our conferences on the open public records process.  He has an open door policy for residents to obtain information about what vacancies exist on City boards, the application process, etc.  His expertise is invaluable to us and residents of Jersey City.
